Lightning photos

30 06 2007

Last night, during the most recent performance of the thunderstorm season, I Lightningdecided it would be fun to take pictures of lightning out my window. There are only two problem with this: 1) the storm was a touch lightning deficient, and 2) there is a fairly large pine tree obscuring half of my window. Not to be dissuaded, I set up my camera to take a succession of ten shots, with an exposure of five seconds and the aperture just about as small as it goes (which, on my Canon A510 P&S, is not really all that small). Out of the ~160 shots, there were four that actually caught lightning: two minuscule sparks; one behind the tree and at the very edge of the frame; and one perfectly centred, but quite dull. Environment Canada predicts a better light show tonight. I’m hoping they are right.
